In The Beginning…
I started shaping surfboards when I was a teenager, It was a magical experience to create a functional piece sculpture out of foam, fiberglass, resin and pigment, that would test my physical skills in the most challenging tube riding conditions at the Pipeline.
I Painted The Universe…
Pouring pigment saturated resin on fiberglass draped over the shaped foam blank was a marriage between precise control and a complete abandonment of rules. In that crack between those driving forces the mind opens to the void.
Empty Bowl Of Radiance…
Full Of Universe And Star…
Hot batch, smoking, resin, ice cubes, crackles, movement slows and the character of the piece starts to individualize, jell, coagulate, crystallize. Saturation of color, beauty, translucence, opacity, all there radiating before me.
