RETURNING TO THE SORCE
Herb is a collector of stuff. Unlike most travelers the stuff he collects isn’t from a store or street vendor, it’s fragments of the culture that speak to him. On a recent surf trip to the North Shore, he was a guest at a Luau, where the local Kahuna was blessing the taro in the burlap sacks, they were about to prepare. Herb was fascinated by the texture, and the stains on the burlap and after the ceremonial feast the Kahuna gifted Herb with the bags. Adding bits of lobster traps, crab catchers and other pieces of the food chain that have washed up on the beach, they come together as a reminder of how we’re all connected in the dance of Life.
